Boop Bay Privacy Policy
Boop Bay is a learning game for young children, made by Stephen Boileau, an independent developer. This policy explains what the app does with information. In short: Boop Bay does not collect, store on any server, or share any personal information.
Information we collect
None. Boop Bay has no accounts, sign-in or registration. It doesn't ask for names, email addresses, photos, location, contacts or any other personal information. It doesn't collect device identifiers, and it doesn't track how anyone uses the app. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, as described below.
This policy covers the Boop Bay app and this website. The optional launch email list has its own privacy notice.
Information stored on your device
Boop Bay saves a small settings file on your device: the language you chose (English, Chinese or Spanish) and, if you bought the full game, a note that it was bought. This file stays on your device, is never sent anywhere by Boop Bay, and is removed when you delete the app. On first launch, the app checks your device's language setting, on the device only, to choose a starting language.
Buying the full game
Boop Bay has one optional in-app purchase: the full game, a one-time payment that opens every lesson for good. There are no subscriptions and no ads.
- The purchase is on a “For parents” page, behind a grown-ups' question, so a child can't reach it by accident.
- Payment happens entirely in Apple's App Store or Google Play. Boop Bay never sees your name, card details or account details. The store only tells the app whether the full game was bought, and the app remembers that in its settings file on your device.
- Each time it opens, Boop Bay asks the App Store or Google Play for the price, in your own currency, and for any earlier purchase. That's how the full game comes back after a reinstall or on a new device signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account. “Restore purchase” on the For parents page does the same thing by hand.
- Apple and Google handle purchases under their own privacy policies: the Apple Privacy Policy and the Google Privacy Policy.
Internet, ads and third parties
Boop Bay contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools of its own and no social features. The lessons and the Playground play offline. Boop Bay's own code never sends information anywhere. Checking the price and earlier purchases, buying and restoring go through the App Store or Google Play, and may need an internet connection.
On iPhone and iPad, purchases go through Apple's StoreKit. Boop Bay needs no extra permissions for this, and the app itself sends nothing.
On Android, Boop Bay includes Google Play's billing library, which Google requires for in-app purchases. It adds three permissions: one to talk to the Play Store app on your device (BILLING), and two used by Google libraries that the billing library depends on (INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE). Those libraries send Google diagnostic logs about the billing library itself. Boop Bay doesn't receive or control this information; Google handles it under its own privacy policy.
Device features
Boop Bay doesn't use the microphone, camera, photos or location. Its voices are recordings included in the app. In rare cases it may use your device's built-in text-to-speech to read a word aloud. That happens on your device, and Boop Bay sends no information anywhere.
Children's privacy
Boop Bay is made for young children. Because it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children. This includes information covered by the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws such as the EU GDPR.
This website
boopbay.com has no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and it doesn't load anything from other websites. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, handles the technical information browsers send (such as IP addresses) to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Your choices
There's nothing to request, correct or delete, because we don't hold any of your information. To remove the settings file, delete the app. If you bought the full game, it comes back when you install Boop Bay again with the same Apple ID or Google account. For information Apple or Google hold about a purchase, contact them under their own policies.
Changes to this policy
If Boop Bay ever changes how it handles information (for example, by adding a feature), this page will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change.
